Lesson One: Why are we learning about God’s Appointed Times?
God loves to meet with us. He loved to walk and talk with Adam in the garden in the cool of the day. Lots of times He talked with Abraham and called him His friend. He wanted to talk with the Israelites at Mt Sinai, but they were afraid and told Moses to talk to God for them. When Moses talked with God, God gave Moses rules to give to the people about how to be kind to one another and how to live a life that would honor God. Then God told Moses when He wanted to have special times with the people He loved. In the Bible, these times are called Feasts. In Hebrew, the word Feast is Mo’ed, and it means appointed time or appointment.
God wanted these Feasts to be pictures of Who He is, and what He does, and what He is going to do. He knows we learn better and remember more by having things to do that help explain what God is all about. Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving and learn about the pilgrims and what happened in our history in the United States. Every time we celebrate the Feasts we learn more about our history with God and His plan for the Church today.
The early Church understood how important it was to God that we celebrate God’s Feasts. Along the way of History, the Church lost the understanding of how important it is to God that we meet on His special Feast Days. Today, God is reminding us that He still wants for us to celebrate His Feasts with Him.
Just like we look forward to Christmas or our birthday, we need to get to know God’s calendar so we can be looking forward to the next Feast. Today, we are going to make a calendar chart so you can be looking forward to God’s next special appointment with you. He wants to spend time with you every day. But on these special days, it’s like having a party to celebrate how much He loves you, and how much you love Him.
